End of Season Report
Porlock & District Bowls Club
We enjoyed another good season of bowls with some notable successes.
The Jack Stephens (Men's) & Evelyn Yandle (Ladies) competitions between Porlock, Minehead, Watchet & Williton ran on Mondays through Late May, June & July.
As previously reported Porlock ladies won the Evelyn Yandle league for the first time since 2012.
The Exmoor Trophy League was also played through the season between Porlock, Minehead, Watchet & Williton.
Friendly matches took place against various local clubs with away matches played against Tiverton Park, Taunton Deane, Williton, Minehead, Combe Martin & North Petherton.
Home matches were played against Somerset & Avon Police, Combe Martin, Wellington, Williton, North Petherton & Taunton Deane. The Somerset & Avon Police match is played for the Pete Dewar cup with Porlock the winners this year.
The last two matches of the season were played as a two leg competition against Lynton & Lynmouth competing for the Dennis Knight cup. These fixtures have been played between the two clubs since 1985.
The first leg at Lynton & Lynmouth saw the home club ahead by 8 shots. However the second match at Porlock saw a reversal of fortunes with Porlock coming out winners of the overall competition by 6 shots. This was Porlock's first victory since 2012.
Although one or two matches were cancelled due to the weather or Covid, this season was a welcome return to normality after various lockdowns and was greatly enjoyed by all who took part.
We look forward to the 2022 season.
