A social event at last!
Porlock & District Bowls Club
Finally after a really frustrating season, on Saturday 12th September we managed to hold a social event to mark the closing of the green for this summer.
We managed to use up a lot of the ageing stock of beer & cider and enjoyed a ploughmans lunch.
The event took place outside, around the rink with the usual social distancing rules being observed.
Although we were unable to play any matches this season games were played on 5 or 6 days a week using an online booking system so no more than two matches at a time were played. There were many very competitive games played and we had a lot of fun.
I guess we need to see whether we will be able to resume our usual friendly matches against clubs across Exmoor in 2021. At least this year has demonstrated that we can still enjoy bowls despite the problems the country is experiencing.
Looking back at other positives from the summer, the clubhouse exterior was re-stained, the gardens well maintained, the green is in better condition than for a long time and perhaps the highlight, the ditch repairs were completed giving ditches which should last many years and repairs to the paving surrounds were also finished.
If anyone reading this is interested in giving bowls a try in 2021 we should be open to welcome visitors at the beginning of May.
